How much does Bankruptcy Cost?

The fees for a Bankruptcy are made up of two major parts:

      1. Attorney Fees
      2. Court Costs

Attorney fees vary by the complexity of your case. Contact our office for a consultation to discuss your case and how much the fees will be.

Court Costs are set by the Court where your case is filed. The Western District of Missouri's fees are here. The filing fee for chapter 7 is $299 ($245 case filing fee, a $39 miscellaneous administrative fee, and a $15 trustee surcharge). You should pay this fee before your case is filed. However, if you are suffering from great financial difficulty, you can ask the Court to pay this fee in installments.

There are specific chapters of the federal bankruptcy law. Proceedings under Chapter 7 (known as straight bankruptcy) involve taking most of the borrower's property.

Chapter 7

The first step for most debtors is to consult an attorney. The debtor should meet with an attorney for between 30 to 60 minutes on the first visit.

Chapter 11

Chapter 11 bankruptcy is a form of bankruptcy reorganization available to individuals, corporations and partnerships.  It has no limits on the amount of debt, as Chapter 13 does.
